How to sign up for Telegram without your own number
Updated Oct 2, 2026
Telegram asks for a phone number to create an account, but it doesn't have to be your personal one. You can use a separate real SIM number for the code, then hide the number from other users.
Step by step
The whole process takes a couple of minutes.
- On kartesim, pick Telegram and a country that has numbers online, then press Buy.
- In Telegram, choose that country and enter the number exactly as shown.
- Wait for the code. It appears on the kartesim page within seconds of Telegram sending it.
- Type the code into Telegram and finish setting up your profile.
Keep access to the account
Telegram can ask for a code again when you log in on a new device. If the number is gone by then, you may lose the account. Do these right after signing up:
- Turn on two-step verification (Settings, Privacy and Security) and set a password and a recovery email.
- Stay logged in on a second device, such as Telegram Desktop.
- If you'll need the number again, rent it by the month instead of buying one code.
Hide the number from other people
In Privacy and Security, set Phone Number to Nobody and choose a username. People can then find you by username without seeing the number.
If the code doesn't come
If you already have Telegram open somewhere, the code is sent there first, not by SMS. On a new number it comes by SMS. If nothing arrives, cancel the order: the money goes back to your wallet, and you can try another country.
