Linode is a cloud hosting provider. Developers use it to run virtual servers, websites and apps.
Linode may ask for a phone number during sign-up or for account security. A separate number helps if you open an account for a test project and want to keep your personal number private.
How Linode sends the code
When Linode asks for a phone number, it usually sends a code by SMS to the number you enter. Our numbers receive SMS only.
When the Linode code doesn't arrive
- The number was already used for another account.
- Linode chose not to accept a number from this country. Try another country.
- You asked for codes too quickly. Wait a while before you try again.
Tip: Set up two-step verification with an authenticator app, not SMS. A cloud account holds your servers, so you need a sign-in method that stays with you.

Questions
- What is a Standard number?
- A number from our wider stock, with many more countries and lower prices. It works for most services. If Linode doesn't send the code, you pay nothing. For apps that refuse virtual numbers, pick a country with real SIM numbers.
- Which country is best for Linode?
- Poland has the most Linode numbers online right now, and Morocco is the cheapest at $0.05. If a code doesn't come, cancel for a refund and try another country.
- What if the code doesn't arrive?
- You don't pay. Cancel the order, or let the number expire, and the full price goes back to your wallet.
- How do I pay?
- Top up your wallet once, from $5.00, and each code is paid from your balance. You don't need an account first: your email is enough. Top up $20.00 or more and get up to +15% extra credit.
- Can I keep the same number longer?
- No. A one-time code number is for one activation.
